Trends in Cyclist Fatalities in Australia

New study by TARS researcher Soufiane Boufous and School of Mathematics and Statistics researcher Jake Olivier found that while overall cycling fatalities decreased by 1.9% annually between 1991 and 2013, deaths from single vehicle crashes increased by 5.8% per annum over the same period. The authors also found that the average age of deceased cyclists increased significantly over the study period. The study adds new statistics that will assist in efforts to monitor and reduce bike rider fatalities in Australia.
