Australian Naturalistic Driving Study

The Australian Naturalistic Driving Study (ANDS), a ground-breaking study of Australian drivers’ behaviour, has been officially launched on Tuesday, Apr. 21. The ANDS project, which is led by TARS, will provide a brad-new and more realistic perspective on the causes of vehicle crashes, along with the roles played by speeding, distraction and outside factors. More than 360 volunteer drivers across NSW and Victoria will monitored by a suite of cameras and sensors.

The ANDS aims to understand what people do when driving their cars in everyday and safety-critical situations. Results from the ANDS will contribute to shape road rules in years to come, being used as the base for to develop new road safety programs, policies and products that are expected to save many lives and prevent many serious injuries.
