UN World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims

UN World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims

Sunday 16th November is World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
In 2005, the United Nations voted the 3rd Sunday in November each year as the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. The main aims of the Day of Remembrance are to:

• Remember the people killed and empathize with the suffering of their families and friends

• Acknowledge the work of all those involved in the aftermath of road crashes on a daily basis and who are affected by it – fire, police and ambulance personnel, doctors, nurses, counsellors and others

• Draw attention to the epidemic scale of road traffic deaths and injuries, and the potential risk to all road users

• Highlight the potential for preventing road traffic crashes.

The 2014 theme is “Speed kills – design out speeding”.
