European Bicycle Safety Expert to Visit TARS

TARS will soon be hosting Dr Marco Dozza, an Assistant Professor at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. Dr Dozza holds a PhD in Bioengineering and his current research focuses on planning and analysing data from naturalistic driving and cycling studies and on the field operational testing of advanced driver assistance systems. Dr Dozza is involved in several national and international projects including the SHRP2 naturalistic driving study (involving around 3,000 vehicles) and Swedish studies on cycling safety using instrumented bicycles.

Funded by a UNSW Faculty of Science Visiting Fellowship, Dr Dozza will be working with TARS researchers Dr Julie Hatfield and Prof. Mike Regan to develop collaborative projects between January 19 and January 31. On January 29 Dr Dozza will speak at a joint TARS/Australasian College of Road Safety seminar. This seminar will focus on pioneering naturalistic cycling studies, involving bicycles that are instrumented with sophisticated technologies to monitor cyclists while they are attending to their daily routines. Data from these studies promise cutting-edge insights in cyclist behaviour and may offer the basis for the development of intelligent cooperative systems for enhancing bicycling safety.
